Kali

Kali Linux is a Debian-derived Linux distribution designed for digital forensics and penetration testing. It is maintained and funded by Offensive Security Ltd. It was developed by Mati Aharoni and Devon Kearns of Offensive Security through the rewrite of BackTrack, their previous information security testing Linux distribution based on Knoppix. The third core developer, Raphaël Hertzog, joined them as a Debian expert.

Mostly gimmicky. Default configurations are questionable. Only valid use-case as far as I can tell is to use it on a live usb when you don't have time to create a custom one.

Not a great desktop, definitely not for IoT and Server. It *is* a top grade security utility and is something every security professional needs in their toolbag.

The go-to pentest Distro. It's also great for (malicious) IoT devices and servers. Not exactly good for anything other than penetration testing.
